WTLW to Make Early Switch to Digital on December 1st

By now you’ve seen the TV ads promoting February 17, 2009 as the analog shutoff date. From that point forward, analog TV owners will either have to purchase a new digital set or converter box to continue watching television (cable subscribers will not be affected). WTLW will make the switch 10 weeks earlier than the national deadline. We will turn off our analog transmitter on December 1st and broadcast only in digital from that point forward. The FCC has just approved WTLW's request to increase our power from 50 kw to 165 kw. On December 1st, we will switch from the side-mounted antenna located 100 meters off the ground to the top-mounted antenna which is 208 meters high. This doubling of height and tripling of power will increase our signal penetration into outlying areas.   If you’ve had difficulty receiving our digital signal, know that the increased power and antenna height should improve your reception. We’d appreciate your feedback on the signal strength of our current digital signal. Email us at contact@wtlw.com. Please call us at 339-4444 if we can assist you in the transition.

WTLW TV will triple the power of its digital signal beginning on December 1st.  The map below indicates the new signal reach.

TV-44 Launches New Channel

WTLW will launch a second channel called The Word Channel on September 1st. The format will consist of preaching and teaching during daytime hours with The Worship Network airing overnight. The Word Channel will alsopresent an opportunity for local churches to broadcast their services with 10 am to 11 am and 7 pm to 8 pm being set aside for local church programming. To receive the channel, you must receive WTLW’s signal via antenna. It will appear on your menu as 44.2.   There will be limited commercial interuption. The Word Channel is another great reason to receive FREE over the over-the-air broadcast television! This is an exciting expansion of WTLW’s outreach, and we covet your prayers and financial support as we work to launch The Word Channel on September 1st.

Exercise Show Added to Schedule

A daily local exercise show has been added to WTLW's schedule. Hosted by Jenny Bollheimer of New Bremen, the program airs weekday mornings at 9 am.  Crosstraining features a wide range of exercise techniques including weight training, aerobics and pilaties.  All of the exercises can be performed by both trained athletes and beginners. Beverly Exercise can still be seen weekdays at 9:30 am. We would appreciate your feedback on this new program as WTLW does its part to bring health and fitness to our viewers.

Employee Profile: Sheri Ketner

Sheri Ketner is most recognizable from hosting Grace for Today, but she also does a lot behind the scenes, too. Her official title is Producer/Auction Coordinator, but her job at WTLW includes a lot more than that.
Ketner began volunteering about 14 years ago. “My husband got saved watching Channel 44 and I wanted to give back to the ministry,” she explains. The auction was where she first helped out, making calls to solicit items. About two years later, the station called her up and asked if she wanted a job. This came as a surprise to Ketner, who will turn 50 years old in October, as she was trained to be a hairstylist.
“It was a God thing,” she says. “I wanted to do hair but God wanted me here.” During her years here, Sheri has done a lot of different things. She has run the camera, done floor directing, made travel arrangements, and booked guests both for in the studio and away from the studio.
Currently, her job includes producing Ask the Pastor, producing and hosting Grace for Today, and she helps produce LiveWire and Community Calendar. She adds, “Any ministry show that is taped in the studio, I help with in some way.”
Ketner continued to do hair for 20 years, up until three years ago. “The hours just got to be too much and I had to make a choice,” she says. “I felt God telling me to choose WTLW.”
She is happy with that choice, and one of her favorite things about her job is meeting people in the community. “People will recognize me from the show…. I am a huggy person and I just love meeting them and loving on them and praying with them,” she says. “It’s so neat.”
Part of Sheri’s happiness comes from knowing she is doing what God has called her to do. “I totally believe I am smack dab, dead center where God wants me to be at this time in my life,” she says. “I’m fulfilled. I’m humbled by the call He’s placed on my life.”
